While some argue that success is determined by circumstance, one Corpus Christi non-profit aims to send a different message. Coastal Compass is an educational information hub for students across the Coastal Bend. The organization urges students to take control of their educational goal and provides the community with direction for success.
“Our goal is to reach the entire community, and let them know that nothing is impossible,” says Deanne Torres, Career Pathway Specialist at Coastal Compass.
The Coastal Compass team aims to offer valuable services to students in all phases of their educational careers; The center provides GED preparation courses, application consulting, financial aid advising, to name a few. Through partnerships with several of the area’s schools and trade programs, Coastal Compass aims to ensure that students are aware of the educational opportunities surrounding them. In addition to providing educational services, the center is also a great hangout spot, offering free Wi-Fi and refreshments for visitors.
Throughout the year, Coastal Compass is involved in a variety of events, used to promote educational growth and professional development in the Coastal Bend. Events such as iDiscovery Safari, the annual R4C2 Conference, and Generation TX are designed to impact students of all ages with the organization’s efforts.
As the fall semester comes to an end, it’s time for students to start preparing for the college application process. Whether searching for application assistance, essay consulting, or financial aid support, Coastal Compass has a variety of resources for high school students.
Coastal Compass is located in La Palmera Mall and is open Tuesday–Saturday from 10:30 a.m.–6 p.m. For more information, visit www.coastalcompass.org, or call (361) 906-0703.
