Prep Area Students for College and Careers at 3rd Annual R4C2 Conference
The 3rd annual Ready for College and Career Conference (R4C2) hit the American Bank Center on November 6 as over 175 undecided high school students from around the Coastal Bend attended hands-on informational sessions designed empower young people to make educated decisions about their career path after high school. The event, which is sponsored by Education to Employments Partners and Generation TX and co-sponsored by Coastal Bend Partners for College and Career Readiness and Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend, unites over 12 academic and training organizations that hosted sessions about 2 and 4 year colleges, skills training and workforce programs, military and college certification programs.
The conference’s keynote speaker, Dr. Twila Eads Johnson of Coastal Bend College, also presented a session entitled “Write a Happy Ending” which implored students to take control of their future and take every opportunity to become successful in all areas of life. Students spent the rest of the afternoon taking in sessions on a wide range of topics that included applying to college, learning about the job market, setting professional and personal goals, dressing for success, certification and training opportunities and tips for interviewing with employers.
Students were also eligible for scholarships via raffle with $500 scholarships handed out by each conference partner institution as well as 3 $100 “Your Choice” scholarships and 4 $100 scholarships in honor of Craft Training Center’s Dr. Anne J. Matula, Texas House Representatives Todd Hunter and Abel Herrero and CCISD Superintendent, Dr. Scott Elif, all courtesy of Education to Employment Partners.
