Coastal Compass Education and Career Resource Center will host free workshops each Saturday in February for students needing assistance filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The workshops will be held on February 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will include staff from Coastal Compass and advisors from Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Del Mar College, Texas A&M Kingsville and Coastal Bend College to guide applicants step by step through the short application process. Students can also receive assistance with admissions applications and all other Coastal Compass services free of charge during the workshops.
As one of the most important tools for receiving financial aid, the FAFSA is used by the U.S. Department of Education to determine a student’s eligibility for federal student aid. Though many students wait to apply or do not apply at all because they believe they or their parents earn too much income, many different factors are considered in addition to income when assessing eligibility. Therefore, it is highly recommended that all students who are enrolling in a college or university are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA each year as early as possible as many colleges and universities have financial aid deadlines much earlier than the tax-filing deadline of April 15.
